About the app
Your own music, on your own iPhone
FloatMusic plays the music you already own: files you bought, albums you ripped from CD, live sets and mixes that never reached any streaming service. You upload them once, keep them in a private cloud library, and download whatever you want onto your phone.
Once a track is downloaded it plays with no internet at all. On a plane, in the mountains, in an underground car park, on a ferry. The music does not disappear when the signal does.
How it works
- Upload your files. Straight from the Files app on your iPhone, or drag whole folders into this web panel from your computer.
- Play a track. It saves itself to your phone in the background while it plays, so the next time it costs you nothing.
- Listen anywhere. In the car through CarPlay, on headphones, with the screen locked, with or without a signal.
Who it is for
People who already paid for their music and do not want to pay again every month. Collectors with FLAC rips. DJs with their own sets. Parents with a folder of children's songs. Anyone who drives out of range regularly and is tired of buffering.
Questions people ask
Can I upload my own MP3 and FLAC files?
Yes. MP3, M4A, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, AIFF and Opus. Titles, artists and cover art are read from the file itself, so a well tagged library stays well tagged. Two formats won’t play on iPhone and are skipped with a clear message: OGG Vorbis and WMA.
I have CDs. Which format should I rip them to?
FLAC or ALAC. Both keep every bit of the CD, take about half the space of WAV and carry the cover art and track names. WAV sounds identical, but one album takes around 600 MB and usually arrives with no names or artwork.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, for any track you have downloaded. The app tells you which tracks are on the phone and which still live in the cloud.
Is there a subscription?
Every account starts with 500 MB of storage for free, with no ads and no time limit. If your collection needs more room, paid plans raise the limit to 3 GB or 15 GB. You pay for storage space, never for access to music you already own.
Does it work with CarPlay?
Yes. Your library, playlists and favourites appear on the car screen, with shuffle, repeat and a favourite button within reach of the wheel.
Where are my files kept, and who can see them?
In a private library tied to your account. Nothing is shared with other people, nothing is analysed, and you can delete a single track or your whole account, with everything in it, from inside the app.
How do I upload a whole folder at once?
Sign in to this page on a computer and drag the folder onto it. Subfolders are included, and the tags are read as the files arrive.
